Contact Juggling Tutorial 7: Palm Circles, 4 Sphere Shower

This week Riel Green teaches us some multi-sphere, taking us from a two hand palm circle with one sphere, all the way to a four ball shower. We took this video on Sunday at Play Immersion CT. Many thanks to Riel of Aether Arts for being super awesome. It seems that every year, it just happens to be his birthday during Play Immersion, so he’s sporting his new green and black acrylics for this one. And Riel is so smooth, he makes them look awesome! Zach Attack is a super cool Sphereplayer who started out learning with me from scratch. I met him at the Georgia Renaissance Faire when he was 16 and within 6 weeks he was as skilled as I was after 10 years. The little %$#$%! Seriously though, he learns faster than anyone I have ever met. I would give him something to learn and he’d come back the next weekend with it looking like he’d been playing for years. I am honored to know him and really glad he has stayed with it and developed his sick style over the past 6 years. Awesome job Zach, Thanks!

Okay, so we missed a couple of weeks. Its incredibly difficult to keep up with everything sometimes! So without further delay….He is our awesome friend Erny Moonkay from North Conway, NH teaching one of his (and our!) favorite sphere moves. Erny calls it the Fun-Ling Butterfly, but over time, it’s come to be called the Funneling Butterfly. Call it what you like, it’s a really nice flowy thing to play with for sure! Thanks Erny!

Epic Adventures – Phase Two!

We left Chicago and C2E2 and took the long drive to Austin. The Comicon was so much fun. We played with superheroes. Some were even in disguise as civillians.

So we have arrived in Austin and we must say, we are loving it here! After spending 2-3 months a year with our good friends here for about 6 years in a row, it really does feel like coming home. And, very unlike Maine, it is a lovely 86 degrees. Just that is worth the trip, but it gets even better because we also get to see so many of our friends. And then there’s the epic adventure next week that will be Play Immersion!

But, until then there is much to do. Things like what Michael, Thom and Tony did tonight. Going out to Austin to meet a bunch of really awesome people who are teaching and performing at Play Immersion, going to juggling club, handing out flyers, and spinning a little fire. We’ll be out on the town in Austin again on Friday night, so if you know of a place that’s fun to be, please let us know. Saturday we will be at the Sherwood Forest Faire where we will see many, many friends from our days on the road and check out the site for a potential location for Play Immersion TX 2012. Sunday we go play in the park at Volve, a meetup of acroyogis and circus folk. Then, more organizing and planning and getting ready for the big weekend. There’s lots of people to meet, places to go and things to do, but hey, it’s all in a day’s play!

Epic Adventures – Phase One

Made it to Chicago with plenty of time to spare! Highlights so far…the BEST, most tastiest Chinese food ever (seriously, we’ve already eaten there twice!),meeting with Kate Riegle Van West of www.spinpoi.com, who let us try out the prototype, The Orbitar, her new Poi/music fusion project and the warmer weather. It was great to go outside and be comfortable without all of our winter gear on.

Tomorrow is the opening day of C2E2, Chicago’s Comic & Entertainment Expo and we are super excited. Come play with us at booth#363 and make Comic Con even more fun! And we have a show special: Let us know that you are a playful person too! Come to our booth and yell “Shazaam” in your loudest, outdoor voice and get $5 of Sphereplay Kit. Wimpy whispers not allowed!

So stay tuned for some photos and videos of our adventures playing and teaching people there. Same bat time. Same bat channel.
